(Ft. Worth, Texas) April 6, 2008 - With his hometown fans cheering him loudly from the stands, Robert Richardson and the No. 23 Mahindra Tractors car primed for a strong finish in Saturday's O'Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.
The McKinney, Texas native not only had his hometown support, but also wanted a real birthday celebration as he turned 27 on race day.
Qualifying in the No. 23 Mahindra Tractors car in the 35th position, Richardson battled a loose race car all day long to take the checkered flag in the 24th position, his first top 25 finish of the season.
"All of the credit needs to go to my crew today," said Richardson. "They worked so hard all day to get the No. 23 Mahindra Tractors car running to where I could handle it out there on the track. They had great pit stops throughout the race and I'm just really proud of them. It was a strong finish for us and I'm glad to be celebrating my birthday with a top 25 finish at my home track!"
Working together and improving each week, the No. 23 Mahindra Tractors team is starting to see their hard work come to fruition.
"After qualifying in the back, we bounced back quickly and made wholesale changes to get Robert comfortable with the changing track conditions from Thursday's practices," said Todd Brewer, crew chief. "We were a little off on the first pit stop, but we got the No. 23 Mahindra Tractors car back on track with very competitive lap times. Everybody on the No. 23 Mahindra Tractors team did a great job and we are getting better every week from Robert improving on restarts to the team getting better on pit road. I'm proud of our finish and ready to focus on Talladega."
The No. 23 Mahindra Tractors team will be back in action at the Talladega Superspeedway on April 25.
