(Talladega, Ala.) April 27, 2009 - Taking on a track known for its high speeds and intense racing, Robert Richardson climbed behind the wheel of the No. 23 Mahindra Tractors car this weekend at the Talladega Superspeedway and brought home a career best finish of 16th in the Aaron's 312 on Saturday.
After going a lap down early with a pit road penalty, Richardson and the No. 23 Mahindra Tractors team continued to be patient and battled back on lap 94 to receive the Lucky Dog award. This push gave the team the momentum it needed and Richardson began to plow through his competitors and into the top 20.
"I think the finish speaks for itself," said Richardson. "It was a great for us out there and I'm proud of the No. 23 Mahindra Tractors team. It was a roller coaster ride, but it was a lot of fun. Being down a lap early was unfortunate, but we were able to race our way back and gain positions. I'm pleased with the top 20 performance and it just further solidifies my love of this track."
With the 16th place finish, Richardson notched his best career finish in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
"Lady Luck was finally on our side today," said Todd Brewer, crew chief. "We had a rough start with our qualifying, but we bounced back with a car that could really race. We knew what type of car we had here and how it would respond to the track. We had trouble early, but the good thing about this track is we had time to bounce back. Robert did a good job keeping the car clear and he was able to keep the No. 23 Mahindra Tractors car in the hunt. It was a great finish for the team and now it is time to switch into short track gear."
The No. 23 Mahindra Tractors team will be back in action on Friday, May 8th at the Darlington Raceway.
