Robert Richardson, Jr. looking for Lady Luck to assist in success at Las Vegas

Team acquires Southern Pride Trucking and Stratosphere Hotel for race sponsorships

LAS VEGAS (February 22, 2010) – Robert Richardson, Jr. and the R3 Motorsports team are already in town preparing for this weekend’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Coming across the Mojave Desert right after their Auto Club Speedway race in California, Richardson, Jr. and team hope they don’t use up all their luck before Saturday’s green flag at the 1.5-mile oval of LVMS. Some good news already for the team is having primary and associate sponsorships on their No. 23 Chevrolet this weekend.

Southern Pride Trucking is the team’s primary sponsor and will adorn the hood and upper quarter panels. Based in Las Vegas, the company specializes in the transportation of aviation jet engines. As one of the world’s largest companies in their field, Southern Pride Trucking deals with the top aviation manufacturers.

On the lower quarter panels, Stratosphere Hotel & Casino - Las Vegas is the official casino and hotel of R3 Motorsports when racing in Vegas. Richardson, Jr. will be making two appearances at the hotel during the race weekend, as well.

Track Facts for LVMS: Richardson has two previous starts at the 1.5-mile oval with mixed results. In his first start in 2008, he led one lap en route to a commendable 19th-place finish. Last year, his luck wasn’t too good as he got caught up in a wreck just shy of the lap-90 mark ending his day earlier.

Car info: The team is using Chassis No. 34 which was last raced at Charlotte Motor Speedway in October 2009. The car has a new body on it for this race.

Season stats: With only two races in the books, Richardson has completed 93.4% of laps contested and is currently 29th in the driver’s standings. He trails 25th place by 23 markers. In the owner’s standings, R3 Motorsports  ranks 31st and trails 25th place by just 18 markers.

Did you know: Dale Earnhardt was Richardson’s driving hero before he traded his football helmet for a steering wheel. That’s why he’s honored to take part in the below activity.

Where can I meet Robert? This weekend, he will take part in the Dale Earnhardt Foundation Poker Tournament on Thursday, February 25th at 4 p.m. (PT) at the Stratosphere Hotel. The following day, he will take part in a driver’s autograph session there, as well. For more details, check out  or, if you’re in town and need to find the hotel – look up.

Robert Richardson, Jr. quotes
What challenges does LVMS hold for a driver: “Because a majority of our races are run on a 1.5-mile track like this, you have to be good right from the start of the weekend. If you can unload with a good set-up underneath you, then you’re ahead of the learning curve. I like this track because you can get some great speeds going into the corners and the higher banking allows you to go through there faster, too. You don’t have to back off the gas as much and, as a driver, that’s my kind of racing.”

What are your goals for this weekend: “First, we have to be ready so we can get the most out of that first practice on Friday. From there, we can make the smaller adjustments to get it just right. Second, we need to make up the points we lost at California to get back up there in the owner’s standings. I know this team can do it, but it just amazes me how hard it is to move up, and how quickly you can slide down the standings. We’ll get back up there, we’re too damn good not to.”

You have some sponsorship on the car this weekend: “Yes, I’d like to thank Southern Pride Trucking for helping us out. This is a one-race primary deal, but they’re going to help us out on an associate basis for the rest of the year, too. It’s because of people like them we’re able to do what we do. And, the Stratosphere Hotel & Casino is a great place to stay, too. Dale Earnhardt was my racing hero, that’s why when I was asked to take part in the Dale Earnhardt Foundation Poker Tournament there on Thursday, I didn’t hesitate to get involved. We’ll be doing an autograph session on Friday night there, too. I look forward to seeing all the fans and making new friends.”
